Wednesday Apr 27, 2022
This episode features Ginny Katz, MPH. She is the Founder and CEO of HazAdapt, a new and exciting preparedness app for families and communities.
These were the questions that kept Ginny Katz up at night while working to become an Emergency Management GIS and digital communications specialist in 2017. After experiencing the impact of emergency communications gaps firsthand, there was no doubt something had to be done. Without relevant information and support, so many people were becoming more vulnerable to hazards, most significantly impacting underserved communities.
In 2018 Ginny turned this problem into graduate research at Oregon State University and in 2019 created a startup, HazAdapt Inc., to build the solutions. Now, Ginny is proud to present the first results of their hard work, HazAdapt, the Humanity-Friendly Hazard Guide and Emergency Assistant. HazAdapt is a free app and web tool built to boost community resilience from the bottom - up.

About Our Podcast
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed just how vulnerable and unprepared Americans are for human-caused or climate-related disasters.
Despite billions of tax dollars spent over the past two decades to ‘prepare’ we continue to fall short when it comes to poor outcomes, especially for marginalized communities and small businesses, nearly half of which shut their doors forever after a major disaster.
Preparedness Matters Podcast is a movement to “change the game” in disaster preparedness for families and communities. Our Podcast will break the mold of telling people to ‘get a kit’ and offer realistic, practical, and cost-effective solutions to ensure households, communities, and businesses a truly ready to face the next emergency.
The Preparedness Matters Podcast will broaden the tent of information and ideas, to provide informative and useful information from a variety of disciplines, not just from a public safety viewpoint. You'll hear from common everyday people as well as experts and newsmakers from entertainment, sports, business, industry, nongovernment, faith community, academia, science technology, and other fields.
You won’t want to miss this exciting, fast-moving series of episodes. It will change, and perhaps save your life in disasters. Listen and learn why Preparedness Matters.
